For my local North Carolina Triangle Area folks:
ALERT: Approximately 100 triangle area World War II vets are taking a day trip to DC on October 7, 2010 to see the World War II Memorial. They are scheduled to return to RDU about 8:00pm Thursday evening. Please join me in giving these heroes a true HEROES WELCOME home!
“HEROES’ WELCOME” SET FOR THURSDAY at RDU Airport!
The celebration kicks off this Thursday, 10-7-2010 at 7:30 pm at the RDU Parking Atrium and the veterans arrive at 8:00 pm. This is an event that you do not want to miss!
We hope to greet the veterans with cheering, flag-waving fans from at least three decks of the parking Atrium. RDU Airport has never seen a homecoming like that planned this coming Thursday!
As part of the Homecoming, Cardinal Gibbons High School band will be playing and food and drinks will be served. Curtis Media and WRAL, both sponsors of the program, will be broadcasting live from the Parking Garage atrium at RDU.
Please come out to the airport to join the Patriot Guard, the National Honor Guard, the Raleigh Police Department, and the USO as we all welcome home 100 World War II Veterans who helped “save the free world” more than six decades ago!
The Heroes’ Welcome Party will start at 7:30 at the RDU Parking Garage Atrium
To enter the Parking atrium, use the short-term parking garage near Terminal 1. The Atrium is in the middle of the short term parking area. You will be able to park within a short walking distance of the Atrium.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with this group, here’s some more info.
Mission Statement: Transport America’s veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit those memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifices. Goal: Helping every single veteran in America, willing and able of getting on a plane or a bus, visit THEIR memorial. Priority: Top priority is given to America’s most senior heroes — survivors of World War II and any veteran with a terminal illness who wishes to visit THEIR memorial. The program will naturally transition to Korean War, Vietnam War and all other veterans who served, on a chronological basis. Philosophy: Since America felt it was important to build a memorial to the service and the ultimate sacrifice of her veterans, the Honor Flight Network believes it’s equally important that they actually get to visit and experience THEIR memorial. Motto: “We can’t all be heroes. Some of us have to stand on the curb and clap as they go by.” – Will Rogers
